Working with Young People
I enjoy working with young people, helping to grow their artistic curiosity and help create new creative experiences for them. In my workshops, I endeavour to champion the voices of young people as much as possible, and use a child - lead approach for deciding what direction a project will take. This may include choosing materials we will use or deciding the theme or concept for a longer term programme. Some image samples of projects can be found below.
For parents and teachers
Please see below a detailed resource on Child Protection which can be accessed by any parents and guardians of young people I work with. Children and Young People can also find extra information on their rights in the resources linked here.
The images above show some of the various activities or techniques that I might use when delivering workshops. I enjoy drawing on different mediums and approaches that suit the groups interests. Some examples of mediums I would use would include things like photography, sound recording, zine making, filmmaking (including props and costumes), freeze frames or different drawing and acting games.
In the Summer of 2022, I was selected by the Cork Education Support Centre to be trained as part of the Teacher and Artist Partnership Scheme, an initiative lead by Creative Ireland to improve Arts Education in the country. This has meant that I have experience of planning and delivering longer term programmes (up to 14 hours over a series of weeks). Some examples of previous projects I have been involved with include:
Leading TAP Residencies in Glasheen National Boys School and Gaelscoil Na Duglaise (2023).
Assisting with workshops with young people in Circus Factory and Plan Be Movement Studio, leading in juggling and facepaint designing for Dragon of Shandon 2022. This project included getting the group ready, chaperoning and performing in Parade.
Managing Youth Show in Circus Factory for Cruinniú na nÓg 2022, including costumes and face painting.
Leading the Dungeon Doodle at Towers and Tales Children's Book Festival 2022
Working in After school setting in Togher Boys' National School facilitating arts and crafts activities
Running Story times for under 5s and assisting runningart classes on Sundays for young people in Idea Store Canary Wharf
